Wind Turbine Weather Station Project
In late 2024, I decided to set up a wind turbine to power a weather station. The turbine kit is a generic 1200W (sure) bought on Amazon.


First, I located an old TV mast, welded on a 3/4" black iron pipe, and attached the wind turbine using the provided 4-bolt bracket. I then poured a base for the tower, attached the turbine to the top, and erected it.





I did not use the controller that came with the wind turbine, and instead rolled my own. I am using a 3 phase rectifier to rectify the AC coming from the wind turbine to DC. For braking, I made my own brake controller using an ATTINY3226, a dump load and a MOSFET. I eventually added a Bluetooth component and a bluetooth app so I can monitor the max wattage/amperage and voltage of the turbine output. This is what the finished brake/etc board looks like :
